Position: Firefighter Trainee

Application Deadline: Friday, September 6, 2024, by 4:30 p.m.

Applicants must submit a complete application with all required documents by the filing deadline to be considered for the City of Brea Firefighter Trainee (Non-Sworn) position. This is an entry-level class in the professional fire service series, where incumbents perform structured, routine firefighter duties and are expected to increase their level of responsibility and independence with experience.

Salary: $6,168.69 monthly

Necessary Certifications:
Applicants must submit the following certifications with their application:

Proof of certification from an Accredited Regional Training Program, Accredited Local Academy, or California Office of the State Fire Marshal Fire Fighter 1 certification.
Current State of California EMT or Paramedic certification from an accredited organization with a National Registry ID # (card must show an expiration date; EMT-D is not acceptable in lieu of EMT-1).
Current CPR Card from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
Proof of completing a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) or Biddle Physical Ability Test (PAT) within the last six months.
Valid California Driver's License.
Important Note: Do not submit any documents that are not listed. Submission of additional documents may cause disqualification from the process.

Filing Deadline: Completed electronic employment applications, along with electronic copies of required documents, will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024. Resumes cannot be accepted in lieu of a City of Brea employment application. It is the candidates responsibility to ensure that both the application and required documents are submitted.

Selection Process:
The selection process consists of three phases:

Application Review: All submitted applications and attachments will be reviewed. Applications will not be reviewed for completeness at the time they are received. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of a City of Brea employment application.

Written Examination: Weighted 30% of the overall score. Candidates must schedule a FireTeam Firefighter Entry Level Test with the National Testing Network (NTN). Testing must be completed by the written test deadline of September 6, 2024.

Oral Appraisal Interview: Weighted 70% of the overall score. Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 70 in this phase. Tentative interview dates are the week of October 14-18, 2024.

Candidates who successfully complete all phases of the recruitment process will be placed on the Joint Recruitment Employment Eligibility List. This list is generally valid for one year. Prospective candidates must successfully complete a background review, medical examination, polygraph test, psychiatric evaluation, physical ability test, and provide proof of legal work status. New employees will be fingerprinted as part of the employment process.

All employees must refrain from smoking at any time, on or off duty, as a condition of employment. Violation may result in disciplinary action.
