Description
Pima Prevention Partnership (PPP) is seeking a motivated, passionate individual who enjoys working with youth to work as a Prevention Specialist. PPP is a well-established non-profit organization serving youth and their families in the community. Position Title: Prevention Specialist
Reports To: Project Director
Qualifications for Position:
- Preferred candidate Bachelor's Degree in education, health, human services fields or related field with at least one years' employment or volunteer experience working with youth and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19.
- Consideration will be given to candidates with a HSD/GED and minimum five years' comparable experience with youth ages 10 to 19; with equivalent combination of education and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inform, educate, and empower youth and families receiving services around health education issues at the individual, group, school and community levels
- Through implementation of curricula with youth and parent/guardians
- Through implementation of workshops with youth and parent/guardians
- Create and maintain safe, inclusive environments
- At the office, schools and community with youth and adults
- Mobilize community partnerships to address individual and community health concerns
- Through creating awareness and promotion of PPP projects and working in collaboration with community partners
- Interacts effectively and collaborates with community partners and community at large on similar initiatives
- Through effective communication and promotion of PPP projects
- By attending community meetings and events
- Assist in building community capacity to deliver effective substance abuse prevention programs through training
- By training the community on PPP project topics
- Through implementation of curricula with youth and parent/guardians
- Through implementation of workshops with youth and parent/guardians
- Work with at-risk youth and their families
- Deliver program in a culturally competent, trauma-informed, and inclusive manner in accordance with PPP policy and practice.
- This includes diversity and equity
- Educate and guide youth regarding program expectations, risky behaviors and personal goals
- Plans and facilitates evidence-based curricula workshops in individual, school and small group settings with adolescents and parents/caregivers
- Implements prevention best practices and the strategic prevention framework (SPF) model
- Effectively recruits program participants
- Link people to needed services related to physical and mental well-being and maintain outreach relationships with referral agencies and organizations pertinent to each youths' support needs.
- Supervise youth in all aspects of the program to ensure their growth and safety
- Monitor project progress of meeting goals and deliverables
- Complete and submit required program records, including database entry, in an accurate and timely manner, ensure that all funder and regulatory required data are captured; ensure records are appropriately stored
- Assists with data collection (including, but not limited to):
- Pre and post surveys
- Satisfaction surveys
- Curricula surveys
- Intakes
- Attends meetings on behalf of the program and the organization; and represents the program and organization with professionalism
- Assists with media and awareness campaign for community distribution
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Demonstrated ability to work with high-risk teens and families with diverse backgrounds
- Ability to establish positive rapport with youth and adult project participants; and community partners.
- Experience facilitating or teaching educational group sessions with youth and parents/caregivers of varied backgrounds
- Strong background in prevention best practices
- Strong aptitude in implementing evidence-based practices with fidelity
- Ability to utilize and refer participants to community partner resources
- Strong organizational, verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills, including being a good listener to be responsive to the needs of the people served by the program
- Ability to implement community-based processes
- Ability to work with a team and to be a self-starter
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
Requirements:
- Ability to obtain an Arizona AZ Drivers' License and Automobile Insurance.
- Ability to obtain a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification from a recognized entity.
- Ability to work scheduled hours as dictated by program design - see scope of work.
- Participation in orientation and training as required by PPP.
Amount of travel and any other special conditions or requirements:
- Travel required within the Tucson Metro area to attend project and partner meetings

Supervisory Relationships
This position does not supervise any staff and reports to the Project Director.
Additional Requirements:
Must be 21 years of age (automobile insurance requirement) and possess a valid AZ driver's license with a "clean" or "acceptable" driving record.
