Job description

Duties This position is located in Phoenix, AZ with the 161ARW. The primary purpose of the position is to provide technical expertise in preparing engineering plans, specifications and cost estimates. Additionally, the incumbent of this position will conduct preliminary, intermediate and final contractual inspections. These activities require application of the basic principles of engineering technology and related disciplines. THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. NOTE: Individual selected will receive an Indefinite Appointment and may be converted to permanent based on availability of funds or position no longer being encumbered. Requirements Conditions of Employment ARIZONA AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Air National Guard, in a military position assigned to 161ARW. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Incumbent must possess and maintain a current state driver's license. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. Qualifications Military Grades: SSgt/E5 - TSgt/E6 Compatible Military Assignments: Must possess an AFSC 3E5XX Qualification Requirements/Specialized Experience: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the Specialized Experience OR the Education requirements listed below. Specialized Experience: Must have 1-year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience, education, or training with knowledge of basic standard engineering principles, methods and practices. Experience reading and interpreting engineering and architectural plans and specifications. Experience planning, scheduling and supervising; exercising initiative and sound judgment. Experience using a variety of inspection techniques and practices to determine compliance with plans and specifications. OR Education: Possess two full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the work of the position work of the position such as engineering and architecture fields. Skill in participating in the construction planning process by investigating proposed projects to obtain field data, check existing facilities and utilities, and to conceptualize the scope of the completed project.
