Duties This position is located in Phoenix, AZ at the CSMS. The primary purpose of this position is to assist higher graded workers in performing work in the skilled trades' occupations in support of maintenance functions. Engages in joint operations with higher graded workers. Rotates through trades areas to gain experience. THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. Requirements Conditions of Employment ARIZONA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member of the Arizona Army National Guard, in a military organization supported by the CSMS. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Applicant must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted State (and Military) Driver License. Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance within a year of appointment. NOTE: If you are the rank of E8-E9, WOC, or W1/WO1 you must already possess at least a secret security clearance. Irregular (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. Qualifications Military Grades: Enlisted: PFC/E3 - SGM/CSM/E9 Warrant: WOC - WO1/W01 Compatible Military Assignments: Must possess or be able to qualify for one of the following MOS: 12, 88, 91, 92, or 94 series GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and can use common tools and equipment in the line of work. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Must possess 12 months experience or training using common hand and power tools, devices to cut, fit, join, or fabricate parts, prep surfaces for paint, or paint, and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories. Experience which demonstrates a basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to vehicles; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience operating various welding equipment to include wire welders, torches, stick welders, and plasma cutters to perform minor welding tasks. Experience demonstrating an understanding of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, electrical schematics, drawings, and electrical blueprints. Experience in mobile equipment body components such as fenders, panels, hooks, and truck beds to knock out dents and creases. Experience with applying coating materials with brushes, rollers, or spray guns. Experience in simple fabrications using machinist, welding, woodworking, body work, and painting skills. Education You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your Educational claims. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics): 1. Skill in setting up various electric resistant welding machines or to use one or more manual welding processes. Assures proper spacing pressure and heat cycle. Controls the torch or arc. Demonstrate the knowledge of different welding processes required for different materials such as ferrous and non-ferrous metals. 2. Skill in using and setting up machinist equipment to perform less complicated tasks. 3. Knowledge of metals used and how various parts are bolted, soldered, riveted, or welded. Ability to use the tools of the trade and return metal to the original contour with minimum stretch or added dents. 4. Knowledge of how to prepare surfaces for painting and apply coating so that will adhere to the surface and be free from skips, runs, and drips. 5. Ability to interpret drawings and blueprints. Determines amount of material needed. Makes major repairs in fabric and operates industrial type sewing machines. Knowledge and skill to use plastic bead welders and to vulcanize plastic or synthetic materials.
