BUCKEYE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT

SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST ASSISTANT (SLPA)

TITLE: SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST ASSISTANT

RESPONSIBLE TO: SLP

JOB GOAL: To provide speech related services to the district's students who meet the criteria for such services.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree and clinicals in speech therapy.
  • Fluency in writing, speaking and reading Spanish preferred.

TYPE: Non-exempt

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Have a working knowledge of, and keep administration informed of, speech guidelines and regulations.
  1. Assist with student registrations in regard to speech concerns.
  2. Perform speech evaluations on the district's students as regulations require.
  3. Conduct interviews and home visits as required to effectively service the speech needs of the students of the district.
  4. Assist with providing services to students with speech disabilities or speech needs as required.
  5. Communicate as needed with administrators and instructional staff special instructions or needs of the district's speech students.
  6. Prepare and maintain all required records and paperwork on speech students.
  7. Prepare and manage an assessment plan for each speech student.
  8. Practice professionalism and confidentiality in all matters dealing with speech students and their records.
  9. Attend classes, clinics, in-services and seminars as needed to improve knowledge and skills and to keep current with the latest in health laws, services, requirements and functions as they pertain to the district's needs.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to fifty (50) pounds, such as boxes, supplies, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and to interact with the public and other staff.
