Foundation Health Partners (FHP) is looking for a Histotechnogist to join the team!

This position uses a variety of technical and analytical skills to process histologic and cytologic specimens and to prepare blocks and slides to aid the pathologist in the diagnosis of patients. Assures timely and quality work through the evaluation of quality control material, proper instrument maintenance and processing of appropriate samples. This position utilizes professional judgment, knowledge and leadership to develop new methods, educate others, improve systems and demonstrate responsibility for administrative duties in the laboratory.

Pay & Benefits:

  • Compensation: $31.32 to $48.94 hourly wage based on experience and education

Responsibilities

  1. Organizes and processes patient specimens and facilitates overall function of histology. Assures quality results through the use and evaluation of quality control material, proper instrument function and collection, assessment and processing of appropriate samples.
  1. Demonstrates expertise in technical skills, such as embedding, cutting, staining and cytology preparation. This includes special and immunohistochemistry stains and In Situ Hybridization protocols. Assists Pathologist or other physicians with frozen section procedures or grossing of specimens. May assist with other procedures including, but not limited to, bone marrows, skin biopsies, and autopsies.
  1. Recognizes abnormal results or unusual circumstances and takes appropriate action. Utilizes available resources to maintain and fix instruments or problem solve issues.
  1. Identifies current professional and technical issues and their impact on lab practices. Maintains appropriate accreditation by regulatory agencies. Evaluates and implements new methods and instrumentation.
  1. Maintains current knowledge and skills applicable to job assignment through continuing education or professional organizations. Follows all procedures and policies and successfully completes all annual competency and proficiency activities according to regulatory standards.
  1. Maintains all specimens, records, inventory and products including tissues, slides and blocks of all cases.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Foundation Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.

Qualifications
  • Must possess knowledge of histotechnology and associated techniques as normally obtained through the completion of an associate's degree in science or equivalent.
  • Requires strong computer experience with common office software suites. Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize, attention to detail and critical thinking skills are essential. Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats.
  • Students may be hired at the job title equivalent to their future certification under the following conditions:
  • Student is enrolled in a clinically recognized program (MLS), Student's Clinical rotation in the core area must be completed prior to working in that core area and Student must complete program and pass certification test within one year of hire. Where no certification is available a Bachelor's Degree with two years of experience is required.
  • MLS/ASCP certification or equivalent. (Equivalent is defined as ASCP, AMT, HEW, AAB.) If no current U.S. certification, it must be obtained within one year. Individuals with specialty certification may only work in the discipline of their specialty. A current license in state practiced as required by state law.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three years histology experience.
  • Certification as a Histologist by ASCP or equivalent.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
