Job description

Duties The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as Small Shop Chief no more than 25% of the time and to perform the same duties as other journey level mechanics assigned to the section and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTIES: 1: Performs small shop chief duties over the journey level mechanics in the section no more than 25% of the time. 2: Accomplishes scheduled inspections of egress systems. 3: Troubleshoots egress and jettison systems on operational aircraft and aircraft undergoing repair. 4: Performs operational (or simulated operational) tests of egress and canopy jettison systems to ensure proper operation of all components using canopy blow testers, specialized test gauges, and push/pull spring scales. 5: Complies with safety requirements and complies with security regulations, directives and policies. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an Aircraft Ordnance Systems Mechanic with little or no supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability to use special and standard test equipment, gauges and hand tools. Ability to maintain good memory skills, good judgement and ingenuity. 2. Knowledge of a variety of technical data such and manufacturers handbooks and specifications, technical orders, operating instructions and special instructions relative to explosive or incendiary device and safety precautions related therto. Knowledge of egress and jettison systems used on assigned aircraft and the practices, methods and processes necessary to test, troubleshoot, inspect, modify and repair them. Knowledge of shop mathematics. 3. Practical knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles associated with egress and jettison systems. Knowledge of applicable personnel, manpower, time and attendance and budgeting instructions, guidelines and requirements 4. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications and blueprints. Ability to follow budgeting directions, instructions and procedures. 5. Skill in mental application required to plan and lay out work, maintain alertness and concentration, or to maintain a certain degree of muscular and visual coordination. 6. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations and technical orders. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1. Removes and installs personnel and drogue parachutes and survival kits. Makes necessary inspection of the same to ensure proper fit and installation. 2. Serves as team leader of employees from other organizations when these employees augment egress jettison work. Also stores and controls explosives incendiary materials for organizations. 3. Performs other related duties as assigned. 4. May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments. 5. This is an Air Reservice Technical (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbents regular assignments are ART duties however the incumbent may be assigned some non -ART duties generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. 6. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 SEP 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. Both legs required. Operation of crane, truck, tractor or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color.
